Pantone's Color of the Year Greenery Inspired by Nature

Title Posted by Deborah (at) dvdInteriorDesign Posted in Interior Design, Interior Color, Planning, and Pantone's 2017 Color of the Year- Greenery

We're going Green.  When Pantone first announced the color this year as "Greenery", they received some pushback from the design community.  We embraced last year's "Rose Quartz" with all its softness and subtlety as seen in both our fashions and in new products for our homes. But this year Greenery was a very different departure with all the saturation and strength present in this green. It's a very spring color that may have surprised many, but I was excited as I am always thinking about how to bring the outdoors into the interior of where we live.

Where do they get these color predictions you may ask.  Well, it's a response to what is happening around us, current events and concerns.  Greenery is thought to represent our need to simplify, to get closer to nature for peace and joy. It is all about what is the current psyche of the American Culture.

Instead of standard-issue colonial red, the family’s front door is painted kelly green. “I wanted something a bit more organic that would tie into the trees”. Door paint selection: Bottle Green 3022.

I will be the first to tell you not to follow trends, I believe in putting things in your home that you love.  I design personally.  For me it's about listening to my clients, learning how they like to live, not about a trend or style, it's about asking the right questions to find the best elements for their home. Sometimes we need a little inspiration to discover new products in new colors, expanding what we think we know and love.  We've been watching the shift in Fashion on the runways and our favorite magazines. Interior colors and patterns will always follow fashion.  We see it on the runways and now we see it in our interiors. Here are some ways to consider incorporating "Greenery" into your home.

Don't forget great lighting too.

Surface patterns are graphic and tropical. As you can see wallpapers are also having a resurgence in the Home.  Many of the designs center around tropical and the latest trend, graphic tribal patterns.  Much more vibrant yet still very clean and a pop of color to a full wall.

A throwback to the 1950's  or midcentury is showing up at market and in global magazines reporting on the latest Interior design installations. Homeowners are feeling nostalgic for older pieces of furniture or patterns.  We are also becoming more comfortable in colors found in Nature.  What color combinations shall you use with this new green?  Well, you can reference nature when considering the right combination of colors for your next project. Neutrals like straw and gray work well with this color with pops of color accents.

My love for the color green comes from my desire to bring the outdoors in.

The richness of velvet and the deep shade of green reference a classic look and allow for a wonderful accent that will mix beautifully with your existing beige and greige furnishings as seen here. A wonderful addition if you are considering an update for your living room.
